WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY CELEBRATION

SEHFOU joins the rest of the world in the celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28th 2023.

SEHFOU’s main objective of this year’s celebration was to create awareness on menstrual hygiene to vulnerable adolescent girls and women in Ediki community, Buea Road, Mbonge Sub-Division, South West Region, through sensitization and distribution of sanitary pads;

A total of 48 adolescent girls were sensitized on menstrual hygiene on the following topics

  • Sensitization on Menstrual health education, promotion, and sexual reproductive health
  • How to take care of themselves and how to dispose sanitary pads and cloth
  • Distribution of 48 sanitary pad packets to all the most  vulnerable girls.

At the end of sensitization, adolescent girls expressed their joy to SEHFOU and partners for bringing their dignity back. They were now also aware on cleanliness and how to count their menstrual cycle.

Despite the achievements there’s still much to be done as there are more vulnerable adolescent girls and women that were identified but could not be reached due to insufficient resources.

One reply on “WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY CELEBRATION”

This is such an important initiative by SEHFOU! Celebrating World Menstrual Hygiene Day and focusing on vulnerable adolescent girls and women in the Ediki community is truly commendable. It’s great to see that 48 girls were sensitized on menstrual hygiene and received sanitary pads, which undoubtedly restored their dignity. However, it’s concerning that more girls and women couldn’t be reached due to insufficient resources. What specific plans does SEHFOU have to expand this program and ensure no one is left out? Also, how can the community and other organizations contribute to this cause? I believe this is a step in the right direction, but sustained efforts and collaboration are key to making a lasting impact. What are your thoughts on involving local leaders to amplify this message? Let’s keep the conversation going!
